Art

Week Beginning 18th May

This week we are getting inspiration from snails and butterflies!

1.

Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse was a very famous French artist. He liked cutting out paper to make collages. He called his work 'painting with scissors'!

  • Look at Matisse's picture: The Snail.
  • Watch the video clip from Tate Kids.
  • Get ideas from Tate Kids -'Cut and Paste'
  • Make your own collage.

Make your own snail collage!

  • Cut out paper squares in lots of different colours from old magazines or catalogues.
  • Cut your squares into lots of different sizes.
  • Arrange your squares in a spiral shape on a large piece of paper or card.
  • Start with the smallest square in the centre. Then place the rest of the squares in size order until you get to the outside of the shell.
  • When you are happy with your design, stick the squares onto the page.
  • Display your art work!

2.

  • Make a butterfly painting. ( Follow the link below to find out how.)

Tate Kids

‘Tate Kids’ is an excellent on-line resource from the Tate Gallery in London. There are 3 sections: Make, Games & Quizzes and Explore. Try ‘Tate Paint’ on the site to make your own artwork; it’s great fun to use. You can even send in your artwork to the Tate Kids Gallery. (NB: Parents must give their permission first before artwork is uploaded.)
