‘Wild Animals’ Topic

Visit Chester Zoo’s website (chesterzoo.org) to find lots of fun facts and pictures of wild animals, as well as ideas of activities to do at home. Simply click on ‘Our Zoo’, then ‘Animals’ and scroll down to select an animal from the pictures on display.

Here are some ideas:-

  • Can you make a set of animals (draw or write) that are herbivores, carnivores or omnivores? (Find the answers under the DIET heading.)
  • Can you find animals that live in rainforests or in grasslands? (Look under HABITAT).
  • Choose an animal (or a few animals) that you would like to find some information about. Make your own Animal Fact Book. Draw your own pictures to illustrate your book. Ask an adult to help you read the ‘Fun Fact’ for your chosen animal.

Dublin Zoo (www.dublinzoo.ie) has got a series of activity workbooks that can be downloaded and printed. There are colouring pages, word searches and quizzes. Like the Chester Zoo website, you need to click on the animal photos to find information on each animal. Look at the live webcams to see what the animals are doing right now!

Have fun!
