Volume and Capacity

This week we will be learning about Volume and Capacity.  You do not have a booklet for this in your work pack because it is a very practical topic so you will need to get out your cups, jugs, pots and pans!  There will be lots of pouring (and probably lots of spilling!!) so have fun.  We are trying to develop language such as "holds more than, holds less than, holds about the same as, holds most, holds least."

We would like you to compare the capacities of two different containers and understand that a tall, narrow container may hold the same volume as a short, wide container. 

We would also like you to have a go at sequencing a variety of containers in order of holds most -> holds least and visa versa.

Think about how you are going to calculate the capacity of each container - you could fill each container using a cup and count how many cupful's each container holds.  The powerpoints and pages below may be useful. Enjoy!!

Please note that at this stage we are developing the language and the concept of Volume and Capacity, we are not using standardised units (litres) to measure.
