Safer Internet Day 2022

Tuesday 8th February was Safer Internet Day. The focus of the day was "All fun and games...".

We were working on some different activities around the topic of “All fun and games”... focusing particularly on how to stay safe while playing online games and what to do if we notice anything strange or that worries or upsets us when playing online.

We worked in small groups and pairs to talk about what we like about online gaming and we also discussed how we need to stay safe by only playing games we are allowed, knowing who we are playing with or against, never giving away any personal details and setting a time limit for playing.

First, we met an alien from the Planet Gnimag. He had come to Earth to learn more about online gaming. We had to work with him and teach him about the different features of online games / apps and offer advice for things that upset or worried him when he played some online games.

We worked in pairs and groups to do this.

Then, we did some group work on how to deal with different online gaming scenarios that might cause us concern... we were in the moment and had to put ourselves in the person’s shoes each time. We had to discuss what was happening in each scenario and then think of what we would do and wouldn't do in that position. We shared some really good ideas together!

Finally, we created a 'Respectful Gaming Guidelines' Poster for the alien to bring back to his planet so that he can teach others about how to stay safe and enjoy online gaming!
