Reading - May & June

We hope that you have found some online material to help with reading.  We would like to point you in the direction of 2 websites that you may find useful.

Oxford reading Tree eBooks.  It's free to register and there you can have access to a lot of eBooks.     When you register, you can pick books by colour band, this is better than by age.  Pick 'pink band' for beginning readers and move to 'red band' for more confident readers.

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/  If you click 'Oxford Owl for Home'  and 'browse eBooks' you will see the drop down option to pick 'levels' and 'book band'.

Collins Big cat books - we have this scheme in school.    https://collins.co.uk/pages/support-learning-at-home - When you click this link go into the Collins Connect link and enter this username and password into the teacher section.

Username: parents@harpercollins.co.uk

Password: Parents20!

Again - pick the colour band books.  There are also downloadable worksheets to go with these books which would also excellent.

A note about High Frequency Words - we encourage you to help your child learn these in context of online reading books, similar to how we would have done in school.   As your child is reading, cut out the new words that appear in the book.  Revise these words and re-read the book until your child is confident before moving on.   This might take a few days or up to a week.  Please note that not every child will leave P1 knowing all of the high frequency words.  If your child is finding it difficult, just focus on 15/20 words and pick reading books with these words.
