Numeracy

You will notice that there are no number facts in your home learning folder for this week, so we would like you to spend some time this week revising all the times tables to date.  There may be some you are still finding tricky, so focus on these.

See the Supermovers link for fun and active way to learn your tables!

Mental maths should be completed daily using https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 level 2.  When going over the answers with your child get them to discuss with you the strategy they used in their head to calculate the answer and can they think of another strategy they could use and do they end up with the same answer.

We have set you a weekly challenge, why not give it a go ? Remember ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try try again!’ See below for details.

Are you up for the challenge???

Each week we will set you a numeracy challenge to really get you thinking. Click on the PDF below, print it out if you can and give it a go.

Why not print off a few copies and challenge your parents/brothers/sisters to see who can solve the puzzle first?

The answers are there too so you can check how you got on at the end.

Good Luck!

Activities for this week

This week's focus will be on using and applying your understanding of addition and subtraction to solving number problems. You will find below a number of activities for this. Please complete these in your maths class work book and remember to rule your page and write your date, title and WALT at the top.

In class we would not expect every child to complete every question, so please don’t feel pressured to complete all questions if you feel your child is struggling. Depending on the level your child is working at you may complete only the first few questions on each activity and if they require a 100 square that’s fine.

Your numeracy and literacy facts book may come in handy for this work as you will have a list of words for addition and subtraction which will help you figure out whether you have to add or subtract to solve the problem.

These steps can help you solve problems:

✅ Read the problem and find the question

✅ What are the facts?

✅ Decide what to do +/-

✅ Answer the question

✅ Does your answer seem right?

WALT: Begin to solve number problems

WALT: Solve number problems

WALT: Use and apply addition and subtraction to solving problems
