Cooking Bramley Apples and Apple Science!!

We have been learning all about Apples! We know that apples can be used to make lots of different things such as juice, tarts, pies etc! We looked at the Bramley cooking apple, which is famous in County Armagh! We talked about how the cooking apple is raw and hard, but when you cook it, it becomes soft and nice to eat. We washed, peeled, sliced and cooked some Bramley apples in class! We talked about the change that occurred when the apples were cooked over a hot ring. We then got to fill pastry cases with the stewed apple and top them with some whipped cream..... yummy!

We carried out an experiment to see which liquid would be the best at preventing apples from turning brown when left out in the air. We made sure it was a fair test by keeping the containers the same size, using the same sized pieces of apple and the same amount of liquid. We enjoyed making predictions and talking about the results after leaving the apples overnight!
