Why did Howard Carter hold a candle into King Tut’s tomb?

Howard Carter wanted to check if there was enough oxygen inside King Tut’s tomb so he held a candle through the small opening.

The candle burned so it was safe to go inside.

 

We predicted which candle would burn 🔥 out the quickest.
The bigger the jar the more oxygen it contained and so the longer the candle burned.
The smallest jar had the smallest amount of oxygen and so burnt out the quickest.
 

REMEMBER: Don’t try this at home!!
