Daily Reading
Daily reading is one of the most important activities to maintain during this break from school. Please encourage your child to read for at least 15 minutes (30 minutes for confident readers) daily.
Oxford Owl is an excellent on-line resource, providing access to eBooks for a range of abilities.
To log on, go to oxfordowl.co.uk. You will be asked to subscribe (for free) by giving your email address and by providing a password. You will then be given an email confirmation to let you get started. Books are sorted by age and colour band. There are lots of tips for parents, guides on Phonics and Comprehension and also a range of on-line Maths activities.
The Phonics audio guide is an excellent resource for revision of sounds. NB. P2 is the same as Year 1 in England so make sure you go on to the correct year group.
HAPPY READING!
Collins Big Cat
Collins Big Cat e-readers are available on-line. This is a scheme that we use at school. For free access to reading books, select the web link below. There is an audio option on the tool bar and an activity to complete at the end of each book. The books are grouped by colour band to help you find the right level.
The Book Trust (booktrust.org.uk) is another excellent source of ideas for reading. There are stories to read online, story time videos, games, and lots of art activities too.
From the website link (below), select: Book Trust HomeTime > Storybooks and Games > Story Books to Read Online.
